Create-A-Sim is the in-game family creator on the Sims 3 and is often referred to among the Sim Fanatics as CAS. It's a very fun tool and many people literally only play with this part of the game (although I love CAS - I love my Simmies too much to just create them - they need my constant love and attention... ish) which shows how fun Sim-creation can be! I will walk you through where to find CAS, what you can do with it and just generally what it is and why it's so awesome!
You will be able to find Create-A-Sim in a few ways. The first and most obvious is when you launch a new game for the first time - you'll have the choice of selecting pre-made sims (either from the library or the actual new town you've chosen) or creating your own.
So whats the second way to access Create-A-Sim? Well let's say you have your sim family and there's just a complete lack of potential spouses -.- ... Well, we can create our own to place in the town too! All we need to do is select Edit Town from the options menu and find the Create-A-Sim option. So easy, right? All you need to do to introduce this new family into your neighbourhood is put them in a lot or house and save and return to your game! All done and now your Simmies have spouse potential!
There is a third way to find CAS? Yes. Yes there is. So lets say your Sim and their spouse are all happy and married and they have a little noo-boo together! Problem is, Noo-boo has been hit with the ugly-stick (not saying I have a problem with ugly Simmies, but some people do) so you might want to give them a little bit of a nose job, or something to just make them look less... ogre. You have 2 options for this (which technically makes 4 ways to access CAS but who's counting?)
With this, we can either try and work with what we have or edit from scratch. If you're not comfortable with cheats then you're going to want to go for the first option or check out our Cheats Explained.
The first option uses the mirror and dresser (or the combo of the two that comes with Ambitions) to see if there's anyway our poor Sim can be made to look less ugly and more unique (still ugly but less obvious if you want to put it a simpler way). The interface here is still Create-A-Sim but you'll notice you can only change minimal things (like their body hair and clothes) but hopefully the slight changes will make the Sim look at least a little better!
If that first option is a no-go (the simmie was beaten a lot harder with the ugly stick for example) you may want to be able to give them a nose job or just generally make them what you think is the height of gorgeousness. So you'll want to turn on Testingcheats (explained in our Cheats guide) and shift+click on your ugly Sim. Select Edit in Create-A-Sim (sometimes labelled Edit in CAS) and boom - edit away!

So what can you do with CAS? Basically you can create any Sim your mind can dream up! There are sliders to adjust almost every feature of the Sim, from their weight (and even boob size) to how big their nostrils are (if you wanna get up close and personal with a sim nostril, that is). If you have any expansions that add new occults, you can even choose those to edit! With some of them; namely werewolves, you can even have it so the alternate form looks completely different to the original!
Well then, let's get creative! You can try and create the most hideous sim that the sim universe has ever seen or the most beautiful - you can even recreate people you know in real life due to how in-depth the sliders can go.... Here, I'll even show you my attempt at the ultimate hideous sim:
